Throughout history, distinguished philosophers, theologians, and psychologists have wrestled with this question. Why are we so bad? How does one explain the Timothy McVeighs of the world? The ]effrey Dahmers, the Ted Bundys. The Pol Pots, the Hitlers. The WTC terrorists? How are we to understand Charles Whitman, and Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold (the University of Texas clock tower sniper and the two Columbine killers)? All of these cases are baffling to the point of stupefaction. And we are powerless to prevent future monsters from killing us.
