For several years Cora Diamond and ]ames Conant have articulated, individually and largely independently of one another, original approaches to many puzzling features of the Tractatus.1 Perhaps the most perplexing of these features is the second to last remark of the book, §6.54, where Wittgenstein retracts his own propositions as nonsense.
